A 32-year-old local driver is facing multiple charges after being stopped by police on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m. officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service observed a vehicle they say was driving erratically near the intersection of Great Northern Road and Second Line East.

After the vehicle turned eastbound on Second line, police stopped the vehicle just past Old Garden River Road. Police say the vehicle pulled to the side of the road and into a snowbank, nearly striking a utility pole.

During the investigation, police say they developed grounds to believe the accused's ability to drive was impaired by drugs. A search of the vehicle found a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine and brass knuckles.

Marcus Iacoboni has been charged with:

  • dangerous operation
  • operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug
  • possession of a prohibited weapon
  • possession of a controlled substance
  • failing to comply with recognizance – failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour
  • breach of recognizance – possessing prohibited weapon
