Local man accused of hiring someone to 'harm others'

A 56-year-old man is facing charges of obstructing justice and counselling an offence after allegedly hiring someone to harm others. 

Sault Ste. Marie police say the accused attempted to hire someone between June and July 2022.

According to police, the suspect wanted the hired person to harm people related to other incidents involving the accused, which resulted in the individual being placed in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre (ATRC).

On Jan. 10, detectives attended the ATRC and arrested the suspect. 

David Carrie, 56, has been charged with: 

  • Counselling offence that is not committed (three counts)
  • Obstructing justice

Carrie was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
