London woman faces impaired driving-related charges

After failing to make a left turn, the woman lodged her vehicle on top a frozen snowbank, narrowly missing a utility pole

A 27-year-old woman from London, Ontario, faces impaired driving-related charges after failing to negotiate the corner of John and Cathcart Streets shortly after midnight on New Year's Eve.

The vehicle she was apparently driving came to rest on top a frozen snowbank facing east on Cathcart Street, narrowly missing a utility pole.

"On Jan. 1, 2021, officers with Patrol Services arrested 27-year-old Serena Cyr of London, Ontario with impaired driving alcohol and drugs," said Lincoln Louttit, spokesperson for Sault Ste. Marie Police Services.

When officers arrived on the scene, Cyr was the only person in the vehicle and she was in the driver’s seat, he added.

Based on their observations, police officers found that her ability to operate a motor vehicle was probably impaired by alcohol and arrested Cyr.

She later provided two samples into an approved device, registering two fail results and Cyr was charged with impaired driving alcohol and drugs and impaired driving – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

She is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 8, 2021.
