Male faces numerous weapons charges

The accused threatened the victim while holding the firearm and then left the area, police say

On July 17, 2017 officers with the Investigation Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 53-year-old Richard Maki of Fish Hatchery Road for firearms offences. 

Just before 8:30 p.m. the accused engaged in a verbal argument with a male known to him. 

It is alleged that the accused left the area and was soon after observed holding a long barrel firearm while talking to the victim. The accused threatened the victim while holding the firearm and then left the area. 

Officers responded and the accused was placed in custody. As a result of the investigation, officers located a 22-caliber rifle without a trigger lock and ammunition inside the residence of the accused.

The accused has been charged with:

  • One count of using a firearm while uttering  threat,
  • One count of possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose,
  • One count of possession of a firearm without being the holder of a license,
  • One count of uttering threats, and;
  • One count of unsafe storage of a firearm

He will appear in bail court today.
