Man, 35, charged with operation while impaired

A 35-year-old faces charges of operation while impaired following a routine traffic stop by Sault Ste. Marie Patrol Services.

Around 2:30 a.m. on June 27 officers observed a vehicle on Railroad Avenue without taillights, according to a news release. After speaking with the driver, police suspected his ability to operate the vehicle was impaired by alcohol. Two samples provided were above the legal limit, the release added.

Matthew Lafontaine is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80+)
  • Operate motor vehicle – no Insurance (under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act)

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on July 24.
