Man accused of biting police officer

Police charged a man early Saturday morning after it is alleged that he resisted arrest and bit a police officer.

Police also allege that the accused ran into traffic on Great Northern Road and climbed onto a vehicle, causing damage.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that officers made the arrest as they responded to Great Northern Road at around midnight for a mischief incident call.

Full text of the news release follows:

On June 18, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 30-year-old Marlon Toulouse of Sagamok First Nation with assault and resist/obstruct a peace officer.

Around 12 a.m. on June 18, 2022, officers responded to reports of mischief at a business in the 300 block of Great Northern Road. Upon arrival, officers attempted to arrest the accused, but [it is alleged that] the accused resisted and bit an officer. Officers gained control of the accused and he was arrested.

Further investigation revealed the accused had [allegedly] run into traffic on Great Northern Road and climbed onto a vehicle travelling on Great Northern Road, causing damage to the roof.

The accused is charged with:
    •    assault a peace officer
    •    resist/obstruct peace officer
    •    mischief over $5,000
    •    mischief under $5,000
    •    fail to comply with undertaking – being outside residence as outlined in undertaking

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 22, 2022.
