A 39-year-old man was arrested by Sault police on Saturday night after allegedly refusing — three separate times — to provide a roadside breath sample.

At around 11:30 p.m. on June 3, police say officers stopped a vehicle in the 0-100 block of Sackville Road because they suspected the driver was intoxicated.

“Officers attempted to get the accused to provide a breath sample into an approved screening device, but they refused all three demands,” says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Robert Cannard faces one count of failure or refusal to comply with a breath demand. He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on July 10, 2023.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Cannard is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
