A 54-year-old man has been charged with assault after allegedly spitting on a stranger downtown.
At approximately 4 p.m. Friday, someone phoned 911 to report an assault at a residential property in the 0-100 block of East Street.
Officers dispatched to the scene located the suspect, who was not known to the victim. Police allege the man spit on the person after being asked to leave the residence.
Charles Shaw, 54, was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Jan. 15, 2024.
The charge has not been tested in court and Shaw is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
