Man arrested on Canada-wide warrant during cyclist traffic stop

Patrol officers arrested Michael LeClair for cyclist failing to stop under the Highway Traffic Act, only to discover he had a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

The accused identified himself at the time of his arrest and the officers were aware of the warrant.

LeClair is accused of threatening two people with a machete on Oct. 22, and faces charges of forcible confinement, robbery, uttering threats as well as failing to stop.

On Nov. 10, 2021 officers with Patrol Services arrested 31-year-old Michael LeClair on the strength of a Canada wide warrant.

On Oct. 22, 2021 the accused attended a residence of someone known to him in the 200 block of McNabb Street. Shortly after attending, the accused used a machete to threaten two victims and steal a quantity of Canadian currency and a cell phone.

A short time later, the accused demanded the victims give him a ride to the downtown area. Once in the downtown the accused demanded the victims exit the vehicle and he left the area with the vehicle.

Police began investigating the incident on Oct. 25, 2021 and subsequently a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Nov. 10, 2021 around 12:28 a.m., officers observed an e-bike travelling southbound on North Street without its lights on. Officers initiated a traffic stop by activating emergency lights. The e-bike failed to stop and turned west onto York Street.

Officers in another vehicle observed the e-bike fail to stop and turned west onto York Street. After turning onto York Street officers observed the e-bike was no longer moving, as it had fallen onto the driver. The driver was arrested for cyclist failing to stop under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The driver identified himself as the accused and the officers knew he was wanted on a Canada Wide Parole Warrant.

He is charged with;

  • Forcible Confinement x2
  • Robbery x2
  • Uttering Threats x2
  • Taking Motor Vehicle Without Consent
  • Cyclist – Failing to Stop under the HTA

He was held for bail court.
