Reno White's bad behaviour, brass knuckles and illegal drugs brought him to a Sault Ste. Marie courtroom Friday.
The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to eight offences stemming from his actions in May and June of last year.
He was convicted of threatening, mischief, possession of a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles) and two counts of having a weapon while prohibited, possession of crystal meth and two counts of breach of probation.
Ontario Court Justice Heather Mendes heard about a May 3 incident that occurred in Garden River First Nation.
White threatened an ex-partner's current boyfriend, upset that "he's playing daddy to my kids."
The accused said he was going to shoot him, warning if the cops were called "see if you take my kids."
White then warned "if you take my kids, I'll make you pay. I'll make you suffer," prosecutor Karen Pritchard said.
Just after midnight on the same date, city police were contacted by another woman about a flat tire on her vehicle.
She told officers White, her ex-boyfriend, had been there.
"He became irate, pulled out a knife and stabbed the tire," the assistant Crown attorney said.
On June 22, police conducted a traffic stop on Conmee Avenue and spotted brass knuckles in plain view.
White was wanted by the Anishinabek Police Service on an outstanding warrant.
The drug charge stemmed from a May 15 incident.
Ontario Provincial Police stopped a speeding vehicle in the Sault.
The cops noticed the smell of marijuana and a pipe.
A chunk (.45 grams) of meth was located on White, federal prosecutor Ben Pritchard said.
Mendes accepted the joint sentencing submission proposed by the two Crowns and defence lawyer Jasmine Gassi-Harnden.
White has "a significant record with a number of acts of violence and breaches of orders," Karen Pritchard said.
Her client's matters "came to court relatively quickly," Gassi-Harnden told the judge.
White, who has been in custody, indicated his intention to settle them in November, but there were issues about getting him to court.
He's had time to think about this and his "intention is to try and go down the straight and narrow," Gassi-Harnden said.
Noting White's lengthy criminal record, Mendes imposed a sentence of time served (the equivalent of four months), plus three years probation for the Criminal Code offences.
During his probation, he can have no contact with the three victims, must remain 50 metres away from them and must take any recommended counselling.
As well, he is prohibited from possessing knives except for preparing food.
Mendes also imposed a 10-year weapons prohibition and a DNA order.
White received a suspended sentence for the drug offence and a concurrent three-year probation.
He was given an enhanced credit of 75 days for his pre-sentence custody on that charge.
White remains in jail for other matters in Sudbury, his lawyer said.
