Man attempts to disarm officer during arrest, say police

The 28-year-old faces multiple charges as a result

28-year-old Joshua Wagner faces multiple charges stemming from an incident that took place earlier this week, Sault Ste. Marie Police said in a news release issued today.

Police say they saw the accused while responding to a call around 1:40 yesterday afternoon in the area of Northland Road and Conmee Avenue. Upon investigation, they discovered he was wanted for failing to attend court.

While arresting him, police say the accused resisted, disarming an officer in the process. Police say they had to use a Taser to gain control of the situation.

As a result, he was arrested and faces multiple charges.

On Nov. 4, 2021 officers with Patrol Services charged 28-year-old Joshua Wagner with disarming a peace officer.

Around 1:40 p.m. while responding to a call for service in the area of Northland Road and Conmee Avenue when they observed the accused in the area. Further investigation revealed he was wanted for failing to attend court.

Officers attempted to arrest him on the strength of the warrant and at this time, he began resisting. While officers were attempting to gain control of the accused, he attempted to disarm one of the officers. In order to gain control of the accused officers deployed a Conductive Energy Weapon. He was arrested.

A subsequent search of the accused found him to be in possession of a small quantity of substances believed to be methamphetamine and fentanyl.

He is charged with;

  • Disarming a Peace Officer
  • Assaulting a Peace Officer
  • Resisting a Peace Officer
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance x2
  • Fail to Attend Court
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions – Possessing a Controlled Substance

He was held for bail court.
