Man faces numerous assault, forcible confinement charges following string of incidents

Police say the accused tied up three victims, struck them and threatened them

Police have charged David Carrie in relation to a number of incidents that occurred between Nov. 11, 2021 and Feb. 4, 2022, states a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

During the most recent incident, police say that Carrie tied up three victims, striking and threatening them.

"While one victim was tied, the accused administered Narcan and another unknown substance to them," the release says.

The 55-year-old accused stands charged with multiple counts of forcible confinement, assault and more.

On March 9, 2022, officers with Investigation Services charged 55-year-old David Carrie with forcible confinement.

[It is alleged that] on Nov. 11, 2021, the accused attended a residence in the 100 block of Wellington Street East when an argument ensued with a victim. The victim attempted to leave the residence and the accused would not let them leave, then he struck them and attempted to hit them with a wrench but missed and damaged a window in the residence. The accused was able to escape through the damaged window.

On Jan. 29, 2022, [it is alleged that] the accused attended a residence in the 200 block of Wellington Street East. While there, he threatened a victim with a knife and punched them in the ribs and later followed the victim as they left the residence.

It’s further alleged, on Feb. 4, 2022, the accused was at his residence in the 100 block of Wellington Street East with three other people, one of them the victim from the Jan. 29, 2022 incident. An altercation ensued and the accused struck all three victims multiple times and threatening them. He then tied them up and wouldn’t let them leave, kicking two of the victims. While one victim was tied, the accused administered Narcan and another unknown substance to them. The accused eventually untied the three victims and allowed them to leave.

On March 9, 2022, officers attended the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre where the accused was in custody on unrelated charges. He was arrested and charged with:
    •    forcible confinement x4
    •    assault x4
    •    assault with a weapon x6
    •    administer noxious thing x2
    •    uttering threats x6

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
