Man in custody at Remand Centre charged in connection to 2021 break-ins

Police have charged Justin Whalen in relation to two break and enter investigations that occurred on Willow Avenue in June and November of 2021, states a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The 36-year-old was charged on Monday at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre where he is currently in custody.

Full text of the release follows:

On March 28, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 36-year-old Justin Whalen with break and enter.

On June 30, 2021, officers began investigating a break and enter in the 100 block of Willow Avenue. Approximately $800 in items were reported to have been stolen.

On Nov. 8, 2021, officers began investigating a break and enter in the 0-100 block of Willow Avenue. Approximately $2,000 in items were reported to have been stolen.

As a result of the investigation, the accused was identified as being involved in the incidents. Officers attended the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre where he is currently in custody in connection with unrelated incidents.

He was arrested and charged with:
    •    Break and enter x2
    •    Fail to comply with probation order – keep the peace and be of good behaviour x2

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
