Man used hammer in attempted theft of $1,000 bills, say police

A 25-year-old man is facing theft and mischief charges

On July 11, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 25-year-old Gregory Charrette of no fixed address in relation to a mischief and theft.

It is alleged that at 3:30 p.m. on July 11 the accused attended a business in the 100 block of Tancred Street. The accused used a hammer to break a glass display case and took 2 Canadian $1,000 bills. The accused was apprehended by store employees and held for police.

Mr. Charrette has been charged with one count of mischief and one count of theft under $5,000. He will appear in court on August 21, 2017.
