A local man who pleaded guilty earlier this year after terrorizing hospital staff with a hatchet has been arrested again for a long list of weapons charges.

Last Friday morning at around 9 a.m., Sault Police received a call about a man with a sawed-off shotgun in the 200 block of Poplar Avenue.

Police say the suspect left the scene before police arrived, but officers developed grounds to believe the accused had hidden the weapon nearby.

The suspect was eventually located on Smale Avenue and the shotgun was found in a neighbouring residence, police say.

Richard Mullen, 37, is charged with:

  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order x7
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order

The accused was held in custody pending an appearance at Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Mullen is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
