Theft, Resist Arrest & Assault Police
49 year-old Rene Lamarche (male) of 1279 Wellington Street East was arrested on the 14th April around 12:30 pm at Zellers in the Station Mall. He was charged with one count of theft under $5, 000, one count of resist and obstruct peace officer and one count of assault police. It is alleged that on the 14th of April just after 12 pm the accused attended at Zellers and stole a bike valued at $300.00. The accused was apprehended by store security and police were called. When police were dealing with the accused, he attempted to flee by lunging and pushing the officer. The accused had to be physically retrained and continued to struggle with police and a security officer. There were no injuries. The accused was also arrested on two outstanding warrants and charged with fail to appear court and theft under $5,000. He will be appearing in bail court this morning.
Two People Charged with Breach
1) 20 year-old Gerald Martel of no fixed address was arrested just after 11 pm at a west-end residence and charged with two counts of breaching his release documents. The accused was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for being unlawfully at large. He will appear in bail court this morning.
2) A 25 year-old male of no fixed address was arrested on the 14th of April just after 11 pm at a downtown residence and charged with two counts of breaching his release documents. It is alleged that the accused was residing at this residence and was on conditions to reside with his surety at a different address. It is also alleged that there were two children under the age of 14 years visiting with the accused and the accused is on conditions not to be in the company of anyone under the age of 14 years.
Assault, Obstructing, and Possission
21 year-old Daniela Harris was arrested just before 2 am at a downtown bar and charged with one count of assault, three counts of assault peace officer, one count of resist and obstruct peace officer and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that when she was refused entry by two employees at the bar she assaulted one of them by kicking the employee in the chest area and punching the employee in the face. When police were called the accused kicked one of the officers when she was being arrested. The accused continuously struggled and physically fought with the officers that were dealing with her. It is also alleged that when she was brought to the station she kicked two other officers when being booked in. The accused was also found in possession of a small amount of marihuana. The accused is to appear in court on the 28th of May.
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service was called to investigate nine breaks and enters over the weekend.
Break-ins were reported to:
1. A storage building in the 800 block of Queen Street East- stolen was a 4 wheeler ATV.
2. The 300 block of Wellington Street West - a computer and tools were stolen.
3. The 100 block of Churchill Avenue - thieves stole a dirt bike from a shed.
4. The 200 block of Wellington Street East - cash was taken.
5. The 100 block of Pageant Drive -a small amount of cash was taken.
6. The 200 block of Turner Avenue - jewellery was taken.
7. An attempted break and enter was reported to a residence in the 100 block of Cathcart Street
8. An attempted break and enter was also reported at a residence in the 100 block of Goetz Street
Break & Enter and Assault
On Friday April 13th at approximately 9:30 pm the Sault Ste Marie Police Service were called to a break and enter in progress at a residence in the 200 block of Chambers Ave. At this location two males broke into the premises and assaulted the tenant.
Suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Suspects are described as:
1. Male, white heavy build, 25-30 years of age, around 230 lbs, shaved head, possibly with a goatee approx. 5’10” tall, wearing sweat pants and a green jacket.
2. Male, white, 25-30 years of age, slim build, approx. 6’ tall, 180 lbs, orange and black jacket. Possibly short blond hair, wearing a dark hat.
Suspects left the scene in an older full size Ford pick-up truck green in color. The truck is described as having large tires and roll bars. The victim did not require medical attention.
