5 males will appear in bail court this morning
5 separate domestic related calls from the weekend.
1) A 31-year old was charged with one count of assault, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of forcible confinement. It is alleged that on April 23rd the accused wouldn’t let the victim leave a downtown residence, and grabbed and shook the victim by the arms, leaving marks. The victim was able to eventually get away and left the residence. It is alleged that the accused took the victims cordless phone with him when he left the residence.
2) A 39-year old male allegedly assaulted his wife on the 24th of April by grabbing her in an attempt to remove a ring. The accused threatened to cut off the victim’s finger in order to remove the ring. The incident occurred in an east end residence. The male has been charged with one count of assault and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm.
3) A 23-year old male has been charged with one count of assault, one count of criminal harassment, one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that in the last month the accused has called the victim’s residence and shown up at her workplace numerous times. On the 21st of April it is alleged the victim was punched in the chest by the accused and then threatened if she called the police. The accused was on probation at the time of the above offences with terms to keep the peace and be good. He was arrested on the 23rd without incident
4) A 37-year old male was arrested on April 22 and charged with 2 counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on that date the accused attended at the downtown residence of his ex-girlfriend and began yelling at her. The accused was on probation with conditions not to molest, harass or annoy the victim, and to also keep the peace and be good.
5) A 29-year old male was arrested on April 22nd after it is alleged that he attended the victim’s east end address, entered the home without her permission and assaulted her by allegedly flicking a lit cigarette in her face. It is also alleged that the accused has continually called and followed the victim after being warned by the police. The accused has been charged with one count of assault, one count of criminal harassment and one count of break and enter with intent.
Drug Bust
On Friday members of the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a warrant at 76 James Street. Officers located over $1,000 in narcotics. Seized items include 9 grams of cocaine, 2.5 grams of cannabis resin, and 4.4 grams of cannabis marihuana. Officers also located a push dagger knife, which is a prohibited weapon. The accused was on probation with conditions to notify a change of address and failed to do so; as well as being on an order prohibiting him from possessing any prohibited weapon. Paul Joseph Wilson, age 47, of 76 James Street has been charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon, one count of possession contrary to order, and 2 counts of breach of probation. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.
Impaired Driving Charges Laid
38-year old Christopher Connell of 397 Elizabeth Street caught the attention of officers on April 23rd just before 4 am. It is alleged that the accused went through a red light at McNabb Street and Pim Street at a high rate of speed and was observed by patrol officers. Officers activated their roof lights and sirens in an attempt to stop his car. Mr. Connell failed to pull over. Police pursued the accused for a distance of just under 6 kilometers at high rates of speed. It is alleged that the accused went through a number of red lights. Traffic was light at the time and no one was hurt. Mr. Connell was arrested on Elizabeth Street and found to be under the influence of alcohol. The accused has been charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of consume over the legal limit, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and one count of flight-fail to stop for police. He will appear in court on May 30th.
Female Charged with Impaired Driving
19-year old Deanna Boissoneau of Garden River was arrested on April 24th around 5 am after receiving a call of a possible impaired driver. The accused and her vehicle were located at Dacey Road and Boundary Road. The accused has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. She will appear in court on May 30th.
Failure to Stop
On Friday afternoon around 1:30 pm City Police attended at the intersection of Albert Street East and Spring Street for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A car operated by 24-year old Jason Biagini of Echo Bay was traveling westbound on Albert Street East when he was struck by a car traveling northbound on Spring Street, being operated by 80-year old Maria Tyczinski of 137 Albert Street West. It is alleged that Mrs. Tyczinski failed to stop for the stop sign. Mrs. Tyczinski was taken by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. She has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of disobey stop sign-fail to stop.
