Numerous Charges Laid Against Youths
On the 2nd of April around 4 am City Police stopped a stolen Dodge Caravan at Second Line West and Goulais Avenue. The van had been stolen from an east end address earlier in the evening. The van was stopped after being observed traveling at a high rate of speed and 5 persons were arrested. A 16-year old youth, and 18-year old Jessica Simon-Hammond of 11-702 Second Line West and 18-year old Lauren Coppin of 110 Fish Hatchery Road were all charged with one count each of possession of property obtained by crime. The 16-year old youth will appear in court on May 17th and Coppin and Simon-Hammond will appear in court on May 16th. A 17-year old youth was also arrested in relation to this incident and when this youth was arrested officers located the ignition from another van that had been attempted to have been stolen earlier as well. This youth has been charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of attempt theft over $5,000 and one count of breach of a release document. This youth will appear in bail court this morning. Another 16-year old youth was also arrested. It is alleged that this youth was driving the stolen vehicle and was operating under the influence of alcohol at the time. This youth has been charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of fail to provide breath sample, one count of dangerous driving, one count of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and 3 counts of breach of probation. This youth will also appear in bail court this morning.
Male Charged With Criminal Harrasment
A 22- year old male was arrested on April 2nd. It is alleged that on the 1st of April around 1 am the accused was observed looking in the windows of his ex-girlfriend’s centrally located residence. The accused also repeatedly called the victim and sent her e-mails while on conditions not to communicate with her. The accused has been charged with 2 counts of criminal harassment and 2 counts of breach of a release document.
Male Charged with Assault with a Weapon
A 29-year old male was arrested on the 2nd of April around 3 am after it is alleged that he stabbed his girlfriend in the leg with a fork while at her east end residence. The victim did not require medical treatment and the accused has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon.
Threating to Cause Death
A 58-year old male was arrested on April 4th just after midnight and charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused threatened to shoot his ex-wife and then himself. The threat was made through a third person.
Female Charged with Break and Enter
An 18-year old female was arrested on April 2nd just before 8 am after it is alleged she assaulted her ex-boyfriend. It is alleged that the accused entered the victim’s address by sliding open a window of his east end residence and climbing in. Once inside the accused slapped and punched the victim who was sleeping on the couch. The victim left the apartment to call police and when he entered the apartment again he found the accused had damaged his property. The accused then ran at the victim with a knife. The victim left the apartment and shut the door. The accused also made threats that she would get the accused beat up. The accused has been charged with one count of assault, one count of threatening death or bodily harm, one count of mischief under $5,000, one count of break and enter with intent, and two counts of assault with a weapon.
Dispute Over Money
54-year old Ronald Reddick of 25 Wellington Street West attended at a west end residence and smashed several windows of this home, as well as all the windows of a van parked on the property. The accused and homeowner are known to each other and had recently had a dispute over money. When the homeowner advised the police had been called the accused threatened to kill the male and female complainants. The accused has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm.
Drug Bust
On the 1st of April just after 1 pm, members of the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a search warrant at 1652 Herkimer Street. Officers located 7 marihuana plants with a street value of $7,000. Officers also located a set of nanchaku sticks. 22-year old Robert Maclary has been charged with one count of Production of a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. The accused will appear in court on May 2nd.
Stolen Laptop Recovered
On April 1st officers from the Street Team executed a search warrant at 32 Elmwood Avenue and located a stolen IBM laptop computer that had been taken from the United Way. 20-year old Michael Joseph and 20- year Corey Paquette (f) both of 32 Elmwood Avenue have each been charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime. They will both appear in court on May 2nd.
Motor Vehicle Accident
35-year old Derek Toulouse of 77 Robin Street was arrested on April 2nd around 6 am after he was involved in a single motor vehicle accident on Queen Street East in the 3000 block area. It is alleged that the accused was operating his van when he lost control on Queen Street East while traveling westbound, skid onto the left shoulder, entered the ditch, and rolled the vehicle onto its roof before it came to a stop when it hit a culvert. The accused did not receive any injuries in the accident. The accused has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on May 9th.
