Charged with Disobeying the "Don't Walk" Signal
On the 27th of August 2006 just before 10 am officers from the Traffic Service Section attended at the intersection of Black Road and McNabb Street for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A van, operated by a 46-year old male, and a motorcycle, operated by a 42-year old male, were both traveling southbound on Black Road. An 18-year old female pedestrian allegedly stepped out into traffic against the “don’t walk” light to cross Black Road. The van swerved to miss the pedestrian and sideswiped the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The pedestrian has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of pedestrian disobey “don’t walk” signal and one count under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario of being intoxicated in a public place.
Bail Court Appearances
The following persons will appear in bail court this morning:
1) Both 20-year old Ernest Richer of 10 Broadview Drive and 20-year old Eric Richer of 10 Broadview Drive were arrested on the 26th of August just after 3 am. It is alleged that both males failed to abide by curfew hours of 11 pm to 7 am on their release documents. Both males have been charged with one count each of breach of a release order.
2) 36-year old Stephen Kerr of 198 Parkland Crescent was arrested on the 25th of August and charged with one count of fraud. It is alleged that the accused received payment for the removal of garbage from an address in the central area of town. It is alleged that the accused failed to remove the garbage.
3) A 29-year old male was arrested on the 27th of August and charged with two counts of assault. In the evening hours City Police attended at an east end address for a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the accused grabbed his girlfriend by the arm and attempted to pull her down the stairs. At the time of the assault the female victim was holding a four-year-old child in her arms. Medical treatment was not required.
4) A 21-year old male was arrested on the 27th of August and charged with three counts of assault, three counts of breach of a release order and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that the accused attended at his ex-girlfriends address and slapped her, choked her and threw a cell phone at her. It is further alleged that the accused also threatened death toward the victim. At the time of the offences the accused was on release orders to stay away from the victim and to notify a change of address. Officers also learned that the accused was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court. It is alleged that in April of this year the accused did steal keys to the same victim’s address and break into her residence and steal a computer and money. It is alleged that the accused attended the victim’s address a second time. The victim was in the residence and the two got into an argument and the victim was assaulted. The accused also damaged a window screen in the residence. The accused was charged with one count of fail to attend court in regards to two counts of theft under $5,000, four counts of break and enter and commit an offence, two counts of assault, two counts of mischief under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.
Impaired Drivers
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service had the R.I.D.E program out this weekend. Between 10 pm on the 26th of August and 3 am on the 27th of August officers checked 225 vehicles. One 12-hour suspension was issued, 8 roadside tests were conducted and three 90-day suspensions were issued. Three persons were also arrested during the R.I.D.E. checks at various locations around town and they are:
1) 30-year old Edward Setchell of 1552 North Shore Drive, Lowbanks, Ontario was charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on October 2nd.
2) It is alleged that 29-year old Rudolph Rivet 240 Goulais Avenue attempted to avoid going through the R.I.D.E. check and was stopped on Oakland Avenue. The accused has been charged with one count consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on October 2nd.
3) 38-year old Leslie Nagy of 216-352A Dacey Road was charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on October 2nd.
Conmee & Shafer Avenue Collision
On the 26th of August around 11 pm City Police attended at Conmee Avenue and Shafer Avenue for a single motor vehicle collision. It is alleged that a car operated by 26-year old Gary Huizing was traveling westbound on Conmee Avenue when the car struck a utility police. The vehicle had severe damage. Officers who attended at the scene noted that the accused was under the influence of alcohol. Mr. Huizing was arrested and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. Officers also learned that the accused was wanted on a warrant for one count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that in March of this year the accused assaulted a male victim with a baseball bat in the City’s west end of town. The victim required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The accused will appear in court on October 2nd.
October 3rd.
Charged with Assult
A 40-year old female will appear in court on October 4th after being arrested and charged with one count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that the accused hit her common law boyfriend with a beer bottle in the head. The victim did not require medical treatment for his non-life threatening injuries. The incident occurred in the City’s west end in the evening hours of the 26th of August.
Charged with Threatening Death
A 23-year old male was arrested on the 27th of August and charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and one count of harassing phone calls. It is alleged that the accused made between 30 to 40 phone calls to his ex-girlfriend on the 27th of August. It is alleged that the accused attended at the victim’s residence and repeatedly rang the doorbell even after being told to leave. It is alleged that the accused threatened to assault the victim. The accused will appear in court on October 4th.
Break & Enters
City Police received a number of reports of break and enters over the weekend:
1) A residence in the 200 block of Queen Street East was entered and assorted power and hand tools were taken. The incident was reported on the 25th of August in the afternoon.
2) A residence in the 300 block of Lake Street was entered and a wallet was removed.
3) A residence on Hill Road in Prince Township was entered sometime between 12 noon on August 20th and 7:30 pm on the 25th. Items taken include a television, liquor and a camera.
4) AC Maintanence located on Trunk Road was entered sometime overnight on the 25th and 26th of August. It is unknown at this time what was taken.
5) A residence in the 100 block of Albert Street West was entered in the evening hours of the 27th of August. Nothing was taken in the incident.
