The following persons will appear in bail court this morning:
1) 20-year old Andre Chartrand of 4B-49 Borron Street was arrested on the 8th of December and charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of breach of a release order, one count of possession of house breaking tools and three counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused broke into a home on The Drive in the lat afternoon and evening hours of the 8th of December. Officers located several items that had been taken from the home including clothing, liquor and electronic items. Officers also located a screwdriver that the accused allegedly used to enter the home.
2) 21-year old Lance Walker of no fixed address was arrested on the 8th of December and charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of breach of probation, one count of possession of housebreaking tools and one count of obstruct police. It is alleged that the accused broke into a home on The Drive in the late afternoon and evening hours of the 8th of December. Officers located several items that had been taken from the home including clothing, liquor and electronic items. Officers also located a screwdriver that the accused allegedly used to enter the home. It is further alleged that during the course of the investigation the accused provided a name other than his own to the police.
3) A 17-year old youth was arrested on the 9th of December and charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that in the afternoon of the 9th of December the accused broke into a home on Grace Street and fled the area. A search of the area by officers resulted in the accused being located in the Trelawne area. The accused was arrested and found to be in possession of a quantity of clonazepam, which had been taken from the residence along with some liquor.
4) An 18-year old male was arrested on the 9th of December and charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a weapon, one count of removing a serial number of firearm, one count of possession of a restricted or prohibited weapon, one count of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, one count of possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of careless storage of a firearm and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). It is alleged that the accused was in a vehicle on the 7th of December and was in possession of a sawed off shotgun that had been stolen from a residence in Thessalon. Officers also located several shotgun shells in the vehicle. It is alleged that the accused was in the process of selling the firearm to another person and had it in the vehicle to transport it. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation. The accused was arrested on the 9th of December after officers had completed their investigation. Due to the YCJA charge the name of the accused cannot be released.
Charged for Impaired Driving
1) 23-year old James Pyne of 17 Princeton Drive was arrested on the 9th of December and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that on the 9th of December around 3 am officers stopped the accused after observing the vehicle the accused was operating was allegedly swerving on the Bruce Street. Officers also learned that the accused was wanted for failing to attend court in November.
2) 26-year old Patrick Harman of 11-254 Dacey Road was arrested on the 9th of December and charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. The accused was stopped during a R.I.D.E checkpoint.
3) 21-year old Steven Mancuso of 3 East Perth Bay was arrested on the 10th of December and charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. The accused was stopped on Wellington Street East near East Street during a R.I.D.E. checkpoint.
Eight Counts of Theft
20-year old Kyle Riel of 56 Cunningham Road was arrested on the 10th of December just after 2:20 am and charged with eight counts of attempting theft from vehicles in the McNabb - Willow area as well as two counts of trespass by night. The accused will appear in court on January 22nd.
Break & Enter
Two of the break and enters resulted in the arrest of three person appearing in bail court this morning. The following break and enters are still under investigation:
1) Sometime between 6 am and 2 pm on the 7th of December a home on Pawating Place was entered. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.
2) A shed on Pilgrim Street was reported broken into on the 9th of December. It is unknown what was taken in the break in.
3) A residence in the 800 block of Queen Street East was entered between 4 pm on the 10th of December and 4 am on the 11th of December. Items taken in clued a CD player and boom box as well as an undisclosed amount of money.
Attpempted Robbery at Mrs. B's
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is continuing their investigation into an attempt robbery that occurred on the 9th of December just after 9:30 pm at Mrs. B’s Restaurant on East Street. It is alleged that two males entered the store and brandished a knife at the three employees in the store. When one of the staff members stepped towards the culprits they fled on foot. Nothing was taken in the incident and no one was harmed. The two suspects were both approximately 5’7” tall with a skinny build. They were both wearing black clothing and balaclavas covered their faces. They fled the store in a small blue car, which was noisy, possibly from an exhaust problem. R.I.D.E Checks over the Weekend
The R.I.D.E. Program was out on the weekend and officers checked 910 vehicles, conducted 15 roadside tests, issued eight 12 hour suspensions, charged 4 persons with drinking and driving related offences and issued16 other charges with the majority of them being Highway Traffic Act related. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is again reminding the public that the R.I.D.E. program will be out over the Holiday Season. Don’t drink and drive.
