Drug Bust on Second Ave
On the 23rd of February 2006 in the early morning hours officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit, which is consists of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, the RCMP and the OPP North East Region, executed a search warrant at a residence at 381 Second Avenue. Officers from Patrol Services and the Emergency Services Unit assisted the JFO Unit. Officers located 23.9 grams of cocaine, 14.6 grams of crack cocaine and a percocet tablet. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $3,850. Officers also located just over $13,800 in currency. Four persons were taken in custody: three on drug related charges and one on an outstanding warrant of arrest.
The following males will appear in court on March 26th:
1) Pierre Brissan of 381 Second Avenue has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance.
2) A 16-year old male youth was arrested on an outstanding warrant for one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The following two males will appear in bail court this morning:
3) 25-year old Andrew Russell of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance.
4) 26-year old Dwayne Banes of 236 Albion Road, Toronto has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance.
Armed Robberiy at Trunk Road ATM
Just before 9 pm a male was at the ATM machine at the Community First on Trunk Road making a deposit when a male yelled at the victim. The victim looked up and observed two males who demanded his money. One of the males was carrying a shotgun. The victim complied with the demands of the robbers and handed over his money as well as his wallet. The male suspects got into a vehicle that was driven by a third male. The victim was not physically harmed in the robbery. The male holding the gun is described as being less that 5’9” tall with a skinny build. He was wearing baggy clothing, a toque, possibly blue in colour and his face was covered with some type of cloth. The second suspect is described as being shorter with a skinny build and wearing dark clothing and gloves. The vehicle is described a being a four door, dark blue and salt covered. It possibly had a square back with square lights and was possibly an early 90’s Fifth Avenue styled vehicle. Armed Robbery at Enzo's Variety
Around 9:20 pm last night Enzo’s Variety and Video Store on Second Line West was robbed at gunpoint. Two males entered the store, one brandished a rifle at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk complied with the demands and an undisclosed amount of money was handed over. The two male suspects fled the area on foot. The clerk was not physically harmed in the incident. The males also stole approximately 10 packages of DuMaurier cigarettes. Both males wore hats. The male with the gun was wearing beige and black pants and pink mittens and his face was covered with a dark bandana. The second male had a blue toque on and a blue camouflage bandana covered his face. Eastgate Hotel Disturbance
Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at the Eastgate Hotel on Queen Street East at the request of the Sault Fire Services for a possible arson. The call came in on the 25th of February just after 1:15 am when a report was received of smoke coming from windows. No one was harmed in the incident and there are no further details available at this time.
Drinking and Driving
1) 32-year old Shane Witty of 67 Spruce Street was arrested and charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of resist arrest, one count of fail to remain at an accident and one count of fail to provide a breath sample. It is alleged that the accused was involved in a motor vehicle collision on the Friday afternoon just before 5 pm and fled the scene. The collision occurred on Bay Street and Dennis Street. No one was harmed in the incident. It is alleged that the accused ran into the back of a car on Bay Street that was stopped for the red light. This car that was struck then hit the vehicle in front of it. Vehicle damage was light. The accused was stopped on Wilson Avenue shortly after the collision and the accused was taken into custody after the officers noted that the accused was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The accused will appear in court on March 26th.
2) 39-year old Richard Dear of 213 Third Line East was arrested on the 23rd of Feb around 10 pm. Officers received a report of a possible impaired driver and stopped the vehicle on McQueen Road. The accused was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on March 26th.
3) 45-year old Andrew MacPherson of 681 Nairn Avenue, Winnipeg was arrested on the 25th of February just before 3 am and charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is alleged that the accused was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol on Great Northern Road. The accused will appear in court on April 2nd.
Assault Charge
45-year old Gerard Allen Taylor of 106-94 Allard Street was arrested on the 23rd of February and charged with one count of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused assaulted another male known to him by pulling off the victim’s glasses and breaking them. The accused will appear in court on March 26th.
Threatening Charges
A 37-year old male will appear in court on March 26th after being arrested on the 23rd of February and being charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that the accused threatened to harm his girlfriend. The incident occurred on the 22nd of February in a downtown residence.
Break and Enters
There was one report of an attempt break and enter over the weekend. On the 25th of February thieves attempted to enter a home on Estelle Street but were not successful.
