Reminder to Snowmobilers

Now that the snow is falling outside the snowmobile enthusiasts are happy however the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has been receiving complaints regarding the conduct of some operators. Operators of snowmobiles are also bound by rules and regulations just like operators of vehicles.

Operators of snowmobiles are prohibited from driving them on sidewalks. Also snowmobiles are prohibited from operating on certain or restricted roadways, boulevards or streets. Failure to abide by any of these By-Laws can result in a hefty fine. Copies of a map that shows the designated areas where snowmobiles are allowed in the City are available to the front desk of the Police Station 24 hours a day.

Drinking and driving while operating a snowmobile is the same as drinking and driving while operating a car or truck. It is against the law to operate a snowmobile while under the influence of alcohol.

Also when you are operating a snowmobile, stay off of private property. Failure to do so may result in fines under the Trespass to Property Act.
