The following persons will appear in bail court this morning:
1) A 22-year old male was arrested on the 26th of January and charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 25th of January the accused assaulted his common law wife by punching her. The accused was on probation at the time of the incident.
2) On the 26th of January officers from Patrol Services arrested 27-year old Aaron Wilson of 404-137 East Street and charged him with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 25th of January the accused broke into Gus’s Pizza Depot on Queen Street East around 7 am. It is further alleged that while in the store the accused damaged a doorframe. The accused was on probation at the time of the incident.
3) A 48-year old male was arrested on the 26th of January and charged with one count of assault and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his ex-wife by spraying her with lighter fluid and threatening to light the fluid on fire.
4) A 32-year old female was arrested on the 28th of January and charged with two counts of breach of a release document. It is alleged that the accused made phone calls to her ex-boyfriend on both the 27th and 28th of January while on conditions not to communicate with the victim.
5) A 44-year old male was arrested on the 28th of January and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his common-law wife by grabbing her and throwing her to the ground.
6) A 37-year old male was arrested just after 4 am this morning and charged with one count of breach of a release document and one count of criminal harassment. Details regarding the circumstances of the incident are not available at this time.
Fraud Charges Laid
On the 26th of January officers from the Fraud Unit arrested 43-year old Augustino Greco of 604-627 MacDonald Avenue and charged him with one count of fraud and one count of false pretences. It is alleged that in July the accused attended at the A&P store on Churchill Boulevard and purchased groceries with a personal cheque. The cheque was later returned to the store due to non-sufficient funds. The value of merchandise purchased was just over $600.00. The accused will appear in court on February 26th.
Police Seek Witnesses in Trunk Road Collision
Officers from Traffic Services are requesting the assistance of any witnesses to a motor vehicle collision with injuries that occurred on the 27th of January just before 6 pm. A pickup truck operated by a 23-year old male was traveling eastbound on Trunk Road in the 1200 block. A transport operated by a 43-year old male pulled out of the Husky East Truck Stop. The pick up truck collided with the transport. Both drivers received non-life threatening injuries. If you witnessed this collision contact Traffic Services at 949-6300 extension 383.
No Over Night Parking on City Streets
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind citizens again that there is no parking on city streets during the winter months. The parking prohibition by-law started at midnight on November 1st and runs through to midnight on March 31st, 2007. Persons who disobey this by-law will receive a $15 fine and may have their vehicle towed. If your vehicle is towed you then have the additional cost of the towing and storage fee at the compound. Even when there is not snow the by-law is in effect. Over the last few days officers from the Police Service have been kept busy tagging vehicles. Several vehicles were also towed. So obey the by-law and don’t park on the streets between midnight and 6 am.
The following break and enters were reported over the weekend:
1) Sometime between 5:40 pm and 7:20 pm on the 26th of January a residence on Sherbourne Street was entered. Items taken include jewellery, a camera and an undisclosed amount of money.
2) On the 27th of January between 9 pm and 11 pm 7 windows were broken at the main vestibule building of Mount St. Joseph College and a vehicle was also entered.
3) A male attempted to break into a home in the 200 block of Alexandra Street just before 11 pm on the 27th of January. The male had a backpack. No further description is available.
4) Between 12 noon on the 27th of January and 12 noon on the 28th of January a home in the 200 block of Alexandra Street was entered. Nothing was taken.
