Warrant Executed-Two Persons Arrested

At approximately 4:45 am this morning officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Drug Unit, Crime Suppression Unit, Emergency Services Unit, Canine Unit and Patrol Services executed a search warrant at 28 Hughes Street.

Officers located a small amount of heroin, cocaine, marihuana and Percocet tablets.  A flick knife was also located during the search.

50 year old Joanne Bjornaa of 28 Hughes Street has been charged with 3 counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance.

33 year old Andrew Dumas of 28 Hughes Street has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon.

Both accused will appear in court on August 26th.

July 22 Morning news

On July 21st a female contacted the police to report that while she was walking to her car in the parking lot of the Sault Ste. Marie Casino on Friday July 19th, two males came up from behind her, stole her purse and ran westbound. The only description available was that both were wearing dark hoodies. She was not injured. The investigation is continuing.

A 16 year old male was charged with possession of stolen property. It is alleged that he traded a Play Station Three and a cell phone to another male for an I-Phone. When the male who accepted the items in trade looked in the phone he discovered a picture of a person known to him and knew that the phone had been stolen. He called police who confirmed through serial numbers that both the phone and play station had been stolen. The youth will be appearing in court on August 19th.

25 year old Michael Palanuk of 510 Douglas Street was arrested for theft. It is alleged that on the 22nd of July the accused stole a motorcycle from the parking lot of the Roosevelt Hotel on Korah Rd and was caught pushing it down the street by security from the bar and was held for police. He will be appearing in court on August 26th.

Break and Enters and Property Offences from the Weekend

On the 20th of July a residence on Manitou Drive was broken into between 12 pm and 12:30 pm.  It does not appear that anything was taken.

On the 20th of July around 2 pm an alert neighbor noticed four males around a home on Tilley Road. One of the males had his face covered with a t-shirt and broke into the home.  The males fled the scene in a black Chevrolet truck. The police were called and were unable to locate the suspects.  A television was taken from the residence.

On the 21st of July between 8:30 am and 10 am a home on Grace Street was entered.  It is unknown what was taken.

On the 20th of July around 6 am a homeowner on Hearst Street reported that they had scared off a male who had been trying to get into their vehicle.  The male is described as being 5’8” tall, had a light complexion, wearing grey sweatpants, a grey hoodie with the hood pulled up and white running shoes.  A call was also received on Laird Street around the same time of a male on a bike going through vehicles.  Officers were unable to locate the suspect. 

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind citizens not to leave valuables in their vehicles.

On the 21st of July a homeowner on Pardee Avenue reported the theft of a 12 foot aluminum silver coloured boat.
