An 18 year old male was arrested by City Police officers today and charged with domestic related assault and mischief. It is alleged that the male assaulted his then girlfriend on the 21st of June by pulling her hair and then smashing her I Phone at their west end apartment. He will be appearing in Provincial Court on July 22nd.

23 year old Thomas Archibald of 588 Albert St. W. was picked up on an outstanding warrant by the City Police this afternoon. It is alleged he failed to attend Court on June the 2nd for a previous theft charge. He is now scheduled to appear in court July 28th, 2014.

Morning news

On the 21st of June just after 3 a.m., officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner in the area of John Street and Conmee Avenue. Officers stopped the vehicle and noted that the driver showed signs of impairment. During the investigation, officers also located an open bottle of beer and 54 grams of marijuana. As a result, 38-year-old Douglas Baxter of North Street was charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. He will appear in court on July 21.

Yesterday afternoon homeowners on Bloor Street West reported a break in to their garage. The break in is believed to have occurred between the 19th and 20th of June. Items taken include a Delta chop saw and beer.

Yesterday morning officers attended in the 100 block of Pine Street for a break and enter to a storage area. Items taken include a pressure washer, a telephone, cleaning supplies as well as a tool box with assorted tools.

Between the 21st and 22nd of June, several vehicles were entered on Parkinworth Place. Items taken include 2 ipods, a money clip with cash and credit cards as well as several lottery tickets. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind residents not to leave items of value in their vehicles.

On June 22, 2014 it is alleged that the accused, Roy Edward Smith, age 48 of Grace Street, stole $24.23 worth of food products from the Esso gas station at 442 Bruce Street. The accused was apprehended on Pim Street a short time later and was arrested for theft under $5000. A check of the accused was done and revealed the accused was on probation to keep the peace and be of good behavior. The accused will appear in bail court on June 23, 2014 at 10 a.m.

On June 22, 2014 at approximately 9:30 p.m., police responded at Tim Horton’s Donut Shop at 410 McNabb Street regarding a possible impaired driver. It is alleged that the driver was seen driving in an erratic manner and hit a curb in the drive thru area. The driver failed the roadside test and was arrested for having care and control of a motor vehicle while he was over the legal limit.  The accused, Matthew Blair Leask, age 21 of Southwood Drive, is scheduled to appear in court on July 28, 2014 at 9 a.m.
