Sault Ste. Marie Police are investigating several claims seen online recently about firearms at local schools.

The posts include claims that:

  • an automated message has been sent to parents warning of firearm incident at a local school.
  • a firearm was brought to a local school.
  • a local school is in lock down.
  • parents should attend local schools and pick up their children at their discretion.

Police say that investigation has revealed that none of the above information is correct.

Algoma District School Board did confirm that an airsoft gun was brought to a school in a statement to SooToday on Wednesday, but provided no dates or locations at the when that incident occurred.

Police remind residents that they can report any incidents to the police at 705-949-6300.
