A 49-year-old is facing multiple charges, including kicking a police officer, after a break-in call Tuesday morning.

At around 8:45 a.m. on July 30, someone phoned 911 to report a person trying to kick in the door of a house in the 500 block of North Street.

Officers dispatched to the scene located a suspect, “who began yelling at them,” police say.

After placing the suspect in investigative detention, police say officers discovered the person had tried to break into two residences.

“When officers began conducting a search, the accused kicked an officer and resisted arrest when officers attempted to gain physical control of them,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Christopher Proulx is charged with:

  • Break and Enter Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Oct. 7, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Proulx is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
