One charged with break-and-enter

Police found suspect, 32, sleeping in residence hallway

A 32-year-old suspect found sleeping in the hallway of a multi-use residence faces a charge of break-and-enter along with several other offences, according to a news release from Sault Ste. Marie police.

On Sept. 12, patrol officers were flagged down by two "distraught" people around 2 p.m. They told officers their home, which is in a multi-unit residence building in the 200 block of Wellington Street East, had just been broken into and the suspect was still present. Officers went to home and found the door ajar and damaged. Inside, the suspect, who was later identified as the accused, was found asleep in the hallway, the release said.

Dano Ruttan is charged with:

  • Break-and-enter
  • Forcible entry
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Breach of probation

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
