Sault Police have confirmed that the victim of Wednesday's incident on Wellington Street West has suffered serious injuries.
A news release issued the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that a firearm was discharged in the 200 block of Wellington West prior to the victim being transported to hospital.
A heavy police presence was reported in the area near Wardlaw Fuels Wednesday after police responded to a weapons call shortly before noon.
Officers continue to investigate the incident and additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
