NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE POLICE SERVICE

*************************
Winter Driving Advisory

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is advising the public to stay off of the roadways unless absolutely necessary.  The current winter storm has reduced visibility on the roads to near zero and has created dangerous driving conditions.

In the last 8 hours officers have responded to 9 Motor Vehicle Collisions, some of which involved non-life threatening injuries.  If you do need to travel please take precautions such as;

  • Giving yourself extra time to get to your location,
  • Traveling at a speed that is appropriate for the driving conditions,
  • Accelerating and decelerating slowly,
  • Increasing the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you and;
  • Staying Home if you can

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are committed to ensuring that our roads stay safe, however the responsibility for road safety belongs to every one of us.  Help us by being a safe and responsible driver.
