A 911 call has led to multiple charges for a 35-year-old.

On Sunday night, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a report of a robbery in the 200 block of Northern Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

Officers found a person matching the description of the accused in the area and arrested them.

Police say that an investigation revealed that the accused stole several items, threatened an employee with one of the items, and punched an employee while leaving the store.

Police also say that a search of the accused found "a prohibited knife opening by centrifugal force."

Jeffrey Rivard has subsequently been charged with:

  • robbery
  • assault with weapon
  • unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon
  • fail to comply with probation order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The allegation has not been tested in court and Rivard is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
