Police identify downtown assault victim

25-year-old being treated at out-of-town hospital for life-threatening injuries

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has identified the victim of an assault that occurred earlier this week as 25-year-old Karlyle Lawrence-Bookman.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and has been transported to an out-of-town hospital for treatment.

Police say the incident took place somewhere between the 200 block of Albert Street East and the 200 block of East Street between the hours of 4 and 9 a.m. Monday morning.

Officers conducted a grid search of the area Tuesday to collect evidence and information related to the assault.
