Police pull over vehicle driving with no lights at 1 a.m.

The incident occurred just an hour into the New Year

A driver has been charged with being impaired behind the wheel.

Sault Ste. Marie Police say at around 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day, officers pulled over a vehicle that had been heading down Albert Street East without its lights on.

While speaking with the driver, officers suspected they may be impaired by alcohol.

Two breath samples were taken and police say both were above the legal limit.

Jesse Mattila, 47, has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on February 5.
