Update on December 29 assault

Officers with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are continuing the investigation into an assault that occurred on December 29, 2016. 

As a result of the investigation a 30-year-old male is now wanted by police.

It is alleged that in the early morning hours of December 29 the accused forced his way into the residence of an adult male that is known to him. 

Once inside the accused engaged in an altercation with the victim, and the victim was stabbed multiple times.   

The accused fled the scene and the victim was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. 

As a result of the investigation, 30-year-old Tyler Smith of Sault Ste. Marie is wanted for;

  • One count of assault with a weapon,
  • One count of aggravated assault, and;
  • One count of break and enter.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the accused is advised not to approach him and contact police immediately.
