Female arrested for break and enter

On the 19th of December 2016 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 30-year-old Carrie Maki, of Lennox Ave., on an outstanding warrant and various offences dating back to October 23, 2016.

It is alleged that the accused breached the conditions of her recognizance on the 3rd of December 2016.  The accused was bound by a recognizance with a condition to be on the property of her residence unless in the presence of her surety.  It was found that on December 3, 2016 the accused was not at her residence and a warrant was requested for her arrest.

On the 19th of December 2016 the accused [is alleged to have] entered the residence of a person known to her by removing the door knob from an outer door and prying an inner door open.  Once inside, the accused is alleged to have taken property including two televisions, jewelry and a cheque. 

Later, officers observed the accused and when they made an attempt to stop her she ran.  Officers followed the accused and located her hiding a short distance away.  Upon her arrest the accused was found to be in possession of several items stolen from the break and enter earlier in the evening.  She was also found in possession of cheques that had been reported stolen by a different victim on October 23 of 2016.  The accused was also found in possession of three substances believed to be crystal meth, heroin and cocaine. 

It is also alleged that the accused failed to attend court on December 5 2016 in relation to charges from an incident on October 21 of this year. 

The accused was arrested and charged with;

  • Two counts of breach of recognizance,
  • Three counts of possession of a controlled substance,
  • Two counts of possession of stolen property,
  • One count of Break and Enter,
  • One count of Possession of break in instruments,
  • One count of theft under $5,000.00, and;
  • One count of failing to attend court.

She was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.
