Police seize BB gun, drugs at Cambrian Mall (4 photos)

Incident took place in the Cambrian Mall parking lot Wednesday afternoon

A high-risk vehicle stop in the Cambrian Mall parking lot Wednesday afternoon has resulted in the arrest of one person who faces a number of firearm and drug charges.

A search of the vehicle in question resulted in the seizure of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as a rifle-style bb gun.

Officers later searched a Wellington Street East address in relation to this investigation, and seized a starter pistol and more than 100 rounds of ammunition.

On Sept. 14, 2022, officers with the Crime Suppression Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit and the Emergency Services Unit charged 36-year-old Dave Maclary with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

On Sept. 14, 2022, officers with the Crime Suppression Unit and Drug Enforcement Unit applied for and were granted a search warrant in relation to an investigation involving the accused.

As part of the investigation, around 3:20 p.m. officers with the Crime Suppression Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit and the Emergency Services Unit executed a high-risk vehicle stop in the parking lot of 44 Great Northern Road. The accused was inside the cab of a truck in the parking lot and was arrested. Two others were placed under investigative detention while officers executed the arrest, and later released unconditionally.

A subsequent search of the vehicle found the accused to be in possession of a rifle style bb gun, approximately 3.95 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl and approximately 4.48 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the narcotics seized is $1,500.

Around 3:37 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Wellington Street East. The subsequent search located a starter pistol and more than 100 rounds of ammunition. The accused is currently on a prohibition order not to possess firearms or ammunition.

The accused is charged with:
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
    •    Possession of a controlled substance x2
    •    Careless storage of a firearm
    •    Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order x6
    •    Failure to comply with an undertaking

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
