Police seize brass knuckles, crack cocaine during traffic stop

One person has been charged after police seized brass knuckles and suspected crack cocaine during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Investigation revealed that the accused, 35-year-old Jeffery Pelletier, was also a suspended driver at the time, says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Full text of the release follows:

On Feb. 25, 2023, officers in Patrol Services charged 35-year-old Jeffery Pelletier with drug and weapon offences.

Around 4 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle as the rear licence plate was covered in snow and was not visible. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers spoke with the driver, later identified as the accused, and developed grounds to search the vehicle.

During the search officers located brass knuckles and approximately 1.5 grams of a substance believed to be crack cocaine.

The accused was arrested. Through further investigation officers determined the accused is currently a suspended driver.

The accused is charged with:
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
    •    Possession of a prohibited weapon
    •    Possession of a controlled substance
    •    Operating while prohibited
    •    Fail to comply with undertaking
    •    Driving while under suspension – under Highway Traffic Act
    •    Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device – under Highway Traffic Act

The accused was held in custody pending a WASH court appearance.
