Police seize drugs, charge 5 people with trafficking

The charges were laid as a result of the joint investigation carried out by three police services between September 2022 and January 2023

Five people are facing drug trafficking charges in connection with a drug trafficking investigation carried out by Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Thunder Bay Police Service, and Durham Regional Police Service.

The investigation was conducted between September 2022 and January 2023. On Jan. 16, officers executed two search warrants in Sault Ste. Marie, one search warrant in Whitby, Ont. and one search warrant in Oshawa, Ont., police said in a news release.

The search led to the seizure of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine, s well as a "large quantity" of cash and a stolen vehicle, police added. 

Leyla Ibrahim, 22, of Sault Ste. Marie is charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (three counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (two counts)

Richard Anderson Brewster, 41, of Pickering, Ont., is charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (three counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (three counts)

Oshane Davis-Forbes, 25, of Brampton, Ont., is charged with: 

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (two counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Failing to comply with release Order (four counts)

Maurice Fidd, 20, of Toronto, Ont., is charged with: 

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (two counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

Tequar Jones, 18, of Brampton, Ont., is charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (two counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
