Police have charged Ryan Derasp with drug-related offences after officers responded to a report of an individual asleep behind the wheel on Thursday morning.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that when responding officers arrived at the 600 block of MacDonald Avenue, paramedics were with the 33-year-old accused.

"Upon speaking with the man, he was identified as the accused and officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs," the release states.

A search subsequent to his arrest found the accused to be in possession of approximately $7,200 worth of suspected cocaine and fentanyl.

Derasp is scheduled to appear in court on April 4 and stands charged with:
    •    operation while impaired – alcohol and/or drug
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking x2
