Possession of stolen property charge after vehicle found with wrong plates

Further investigation by police revealed the license plates had been stolen from a rental vehicle

On May 5, 2020 officers with the Crime Suppression Unit and Drug Enforcement Unit arrested 49-year-old Gerald Burns for possession of stolen property.

At 12:12 a.m. on May 4, 2020 officers observed a vehicle running in the 800 block of Second Line E. At this time officers learned the license plate on the vehicle was not registered to that vehicle. The accused was inside the vehicle and he was informed about the license plates. Officers seized the license plates and the accused was told to leave the area, and leave the vehicle there.

Further investigation revealed the license plates had been stolen from a rental vehicle. At 10:05 p.m. on May 5, 2020 officers observed the accused return to the 800 block of Second Line East to retrieve the vehicle. Police followed the accused and he was arrested shortly afterwards in the 100 block of Caledon St.

He is charged with possession of stolen property. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 27, 2020.
