Possible weapons removed from scene that caused school hold and secure order (update, 5 photos)

Tarentorus Public School was placed on hold and secure as a precaution on Thursday as police were managing a scene on Old Garden River Road

4:15 p.m. update:

Sault Police spokesperson Lincoln Loutitt said officers responded to a report of a person with a weapon in the area of Old Garden River Road.

"It was resolved peacefully, with one man taken into custody," said Loutitt. "No physical injuries were reported and criminal charges are pending.

Loutitt did not have information on whether the items taken from the scene by police were firearms or possible replicas.

After a nearby school was placed on hold and secure orders, a number of items that appeared to be long guns were removed from in front of a house on Old Garden River Road on Thursday.

A total of three apparent weapons were placed into a bag by police at the scene and taken to a police vehicle in the driveway of the home.

A police spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.

A forensic officer was seen taking photographs of a bicycle that was also at the scene.

Fran Walsh, a spokesperson for the Algoma District School Board, confirmed nearby Tarentorus Public School was placed on hold and secure as a precaution on Thursday as police were managing a scene on Old Garden River Road.

"The situation was resolved and the hold and secure at Tarentorus was lifted approximately 10 minutes later, with school operations returning to normal," she said.
