Robbery investigation leads to assault charges

Police have charged Corey McIntyre following a robbery and two assault incidents that occurred last Friday.

In a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, it is alleged that the 28-year-old, who was the subject of a robbery investigation, had assaulted victims in the downtown area on the morning of March 26.

Full text of the news release follows:

On March 31, 2021 officers with Investigation Services charged 28-year-old Corey McIntyre with assault and assault with a weapon.

While investigating a robbery involving the accused on March 26, 2021, officers learned of two other incidents it’s alleged the accused was involved with.

It’s alleged on March 26, 2021 around 9:30 a.m., the accused approached a victim on Dennis Street and struck them with a piece of wood and fled the area.

It’s further alleged on March 26, 2021 around 10:30 a.m., [the accused] approached a victim on Queen Street East and made a motion as if he was going to strike the victim then he fled the area.

Police were notified of both occurrences and the investigation identified the accused as the suspect in both cases.

He is in custody on a separate occurrence and officers arrested him and charged him with assault and assault with a weapon. He was held for bail court.
