One suspect threw an object at a staff member and the other threatened the person with a knife in a robbery on the weekend that led to the arrest of two people by city police.

Sault Ste. Marie Police say that on Saturday, 911 Communicators received a report of a robbery at a business in the 200 block of Wellington Street West. Officers were dispatched to the business, but the suspects had already run away, police said.

Investigation revealed when the pair were confronted by staff about trying to leave the business with items they had not paid for, one threw a wooden stick at a staff member and the other pulled a knife, according to police.

Police said both suspects in the case had warrants for their arrest after a shoplifting incident at a business in the 300 block of McNabb Street on Jan. 18.

Both were taken into custody in separate arrests yesterday and today.

On Sunday, officers located Jessie Caithcart, 20, at a business in the 300 block of John Street, and made an arrest.

Caithcart is charged with:

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Assault with Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Theft Under $5,000

Caithcart is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Earlier today, officers were dispatched to a business in the 200 block of Wellington Street West in response to reports of an unwanted person.

Officers identified the person as Dylan Daigle, 27, also wanted in the earlier robbery incident, and made an arrest.

Daigle is charged with:

  • Robbery with Weapon
  • Assault with Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Theft Under $5,000 x2
  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order x2

Daigle is also being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Caithcart and Daigle are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
