Arrests Police stopped a vehicle on Black Rd. where the driver was allegedly talking on the cellphone while driving. When lights were activated by the police officer the driver changed seats with the passenger while the vehicle was still moving.

Police stopped a vehicle on Black Rd. where the driver was allegedly talking on the cellphone while driving. When lights were activated by the police officer the driver changed seats with the passenger while the vehicle was still moving.  A records check on the driver showed that he was disqualified from driving as a result of an impaired driving conviction. Lucas Leyenhorst age 25 from Red Deer Alberta was arrested and charged with one count of drive while disqualified under the Criminal Code as well as distracted driving under the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in court on March 25 2013.

Arrests/Charged Persons: 

On February 8, 2013 police were called to the Macs Mart on Boundary Road regarding internal thefts by an employee.  Video was viewed by police and it is alleged that the accused stole scratch tickets, currency from the till and products from the store shelves.  Police arrested the accused.  John Robert Boyko, age 21, of 4 Vera Street. He was arrested for theft under $5000 and will appear in court on March 11, 2013 at 9:00am.

On February 7, 2013 shortly before 4:30 pm it is alleged that the accused Merle Travis Bowen-Hart age 20 of 222 St. James Street and a young person accomplice started a fire in the interior of Northern Brewery located at 503 Bay Street. On February 8, 2013 the accused was arrested for arson and will appear in court on March 11, 2013 at 09:00am.

On February 8, 2013 police arrested Paul Joseph Brunette, age 49 of 49 St. Mary’s River Drive, apartment #508. It is alleged that the accused telephoned the victim and threatened to cause death to the victim.  The victim was afraid for his well being and that of his children.  The accused was arrested for threatening death or bodily harm and will appear in court on March 11, 2013 at 9:00 am.

On February 8, 2013 officers attended 800 Great Northern Road, the Algoma Remand and Treatment Center and arrested the accused on an outstanding warrant.  David Albert Chapman age 49 of 544 Albert Street West, apartment #7, was arrested for being unlawfully at large and breach of probation. The accused is serving an intermittent sentence ordering him to appear every Friday at 8:00pm and remain there until Sunday at 8:00pm. On February 1, 2013, he failed to return to the Treatment Center.  The accused will appear in WASH court (weekend and statutory holiday video court) on February 9, 2013.
