On the 6 July 2013 police responded to a call regarding a male in the St Mary’s River. Police managed to get the man out of the water and discovered he was intoxicated. As it turned out, the inebriated man decided to go for a swim in the area of Whitefish Island when he was caught by the current and swept down the river. He was pulled out near the Bondar Pavilion. As one can imagine, it is never a good idea to swim anywhere near the rapids or the tail race but it becomes incredibly dangerous when you’re intoxicated as well. He was given a Liquor License Act ticket and taken home.
