Update: March 7, 2014 Yesterday, Dustin Kirk Middaugh was found not guilty of resisting arrest and failing to identify himself to an officer of the law

Original release: June 1, 2013: At approximately 1 p.m. patrol officers initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle on Wellington Street West that had attached to it Ontario licence plates that did not belong on the motor vehicle. 


The male driver refused to identify himself to police and was placed under arrest. 

During the arrest the male resisted arrest by locking the doors to the vehicle and attempted to roll up the windows. 

Officers had taken control of the male who continued to struggle until finally handcuffed. 

The accused was brought to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Building where he was identified as 31-year-old Dustin Kirk Middaugh of Second Line West, Sault Ste. Marie. 

Mr. Middaugh was charged with obstruct/resist peace officer and will appear in court on July 8, 2013. 

Further, Mr. Middaugh was issued seven offence notices under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

At approximately 5pm officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team located and arrested 22 year old Andrew Petts of 26 Albert Street East. Petts had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for breaching conditions of his probation order.  At the time of the arrest Petts was found to be in possession a small amount of Oxycodone and Fentanyl without a prescription and was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court June 24, 2013.

On June 1, 2013 at approximately 1:00am officers attended in the 500 block of Albert Street West, regarding a loud party.  While at the residence a check of an individual was done and it was found that there was an outstanding warrant for breaching a probation order.  It is alleged that between January 30, 2012 and September 30, 2012, the accused did not perform 30 hours of community service as ordered by the courts.  Richard Aelick, age 43 of 546 Albert Street West will appear in court on June 24, 2013 at 10:00am.

On June 1, 2013 police observed a vehicle being driven by the accused Jesse Thorne, age 18 of 160 Amber Street.  A check revealed that the accused is a prohibited driver.  The accused was apprehended after attempting to flee from police.  The accused was also on probation with a curfew.  The accused will appear in court on July 8, 2013 at 9:00am.

Break and Enters and Thefts

During the early hours on the May 31st, 2013 a barbecue was taken from a residence in the 100 block of Bristol Place.
