In the early morning hours of June 27, City Police officers had occasion to check a suspicious vehicle parked behind a local school. As officers approached the vehicle, a strong smell of marihuana was detected.

As officers approached the vehicle, a strong smell of marihuana was detected. Further observations along with assistance of the canine unit produced assorted drug paraphernalia and a small quantity of cocaine. As a result, 19-year-old Nicholas Trecroce of Birkshire Place and 19-year-old Matthew Stanghetta of Northridge Rd. were both charged with two counts of possession of a narcotic and will be appearing in Provincial Court July 27.

City Police checked a male early this morning in the Gore and Wellington St. area of town and learned that the male was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court from 2013. 33-year-old Joseph Elie of Gran St. was arrested for fail to appear court and will be appearing in Provincial Court July 27.

City Police attended to a domestic disturbance to a west end apartment at approximately 2 a.m. on June 27. Investigation revealed that a 21-year-old male [allegedly] assaulted his common-law girlfriend by putting her in a head lock and forcing her to the ground. The accused also damaged a kitchen cabinet and breached conditions of different release documents he was on. He was charged with assault, mischief and breaching conditions which did not allow him to drink alcohol and to keep the peace. He appeared in WASH court this morning.

On June 26, 2015 at 9:40 p.m. Sault Ste Marie Police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the area of Trunk Road. Officers located the suspect vehicle and noted that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation, 30-year-old Naithen Joseph of Goulais River was arrested and charged with drive motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol in blood. The accused will appear in court on July 27.
