Break-ins to two businesses on Cedar Street were reported to City Police today. Sometime overnight, thieves broke into Northern Fencing causing damage to the office and a vehicle in the compound as well as stealing an excavator from the yard which was later recovered on the railroad tracks not far from the scene. An attempt to gain entry was also made to Nutra-Lawn. Police are still investigating.

Update and clarification to arrest of male

On the 19th of July 2013, City Police attended at the Station Mall for a complaint of shoplifting. At the time of the arrest, the accused identified himself as 28-year-old Devin John Baynton of 680 Portage Lane apartment 4. The accused was charged with theft under $5,000 and had a court appearance. Further investigation has since revealed that the accused responsible for the theft was not Mr. Baynton. It is alleged that on July 19th Graham Tarrant, age 28, of 680 Portage Lane apartment 7 identified himself as Mr. Baynton. As a result of this new information, a warrant was requested by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service for the arrest of Graham Tarrant for one count of personation and one count of theft under $5,000. On the 18th of October Mr. Tarrant was charged with the two offences and will appear in court on November 18. The charges against Mr. Baynton have been withdrawn.

Arrests

On October 18, 2013 at approximately 5:26 p.m. the accused Dylan King, age 19, was located in the Stevens Street area. The accused had an outstanding warrant for breach of probation for failing to report as required by the courts. The accused was arrest and will appear in court on November 18, 2013 at 9 a.m.

On July 19, 2013 police were called to the Station Mall for a theft of clothing. The male was arrested but at the time gave a false name. On October 18, 2013 after further investigation police arrested the accused for theft under $5,000 and personation. Graham Tarrant, age 28 of 680 Portage Lane, will appear in court on November 18, 2013 at 9 a.m.

On October 18, 2013 two persons were arrested for domestic matters. The two were involved in a heated argument in their apartment when the verbal argument turned into a violent one. The male, age 50, struck his female partner in the face causing a bloody nose and a cut lip. The female, age 44, retaliated by hitting the male in the face causing a cut under his left eye. Both accused were arrested for assault and will appear in WASH court (weekend and statutory holiday court) on October 19, 2013.
