Sault man accused of assaulting an officer during theft arrest

Police say the 37-year-old stole $154 worth of items from a McNabb business

On May 26, 2020 officers with Patrol Services arrested 37-year-old Evan Makinson for theft under $5000.

On May 26, 2020 the accused attended a business in the 200 block of McNabb St. It is alleged he selected items from the business, placed them in a backpack and left without attempting to pay for them.

The approximate value of the items selected is $154. When store security approached the accused, he resisted and grabbed them. He was detained by store security for police.

When officers arrived he was arrested. He is charged with theft under $5000, assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 17, 2020.
