Sault man faces robbery, theft charges

Police say the accused was involved in two theft incidents

Police have arrested 31-year-old Kyle Masciotte following two robbery incidents that were reported on Jan. 27 and 28, states a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

The accused was apprehended on Jan. 30 after officers responded to a Queen Street West address regarding an unwanted person.

Full text of the news release follows:

On Jan. 30, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 31-year-old Kyle Masciotte with robbery.

On Jan. 27, 2022, [it is alleged that] the accused attended the Station Mall and attempted to steal items from a business. Security staff advised him to pay for the items or put them down and exit the store. At this time the accused charged at security staff forcing his way out of the business and left the area. Security staff did not sustain any physical injuries.

On Jan. 28, 2022, [it is alleged that] the accused attended a business in the 100 block of Gore Street, selected approximately $40 worth of items and left without attempting to pay.

A warrant was requested and issued for his arrest related to these incidents.

On Jan. 30, 2022, officers responded to an unwanted person call in the 400 block of Queen Street West. Upon arrival, officers identified the person as the accused and he was arrested.

He is charged with:
    •    robbery
    •    theft under $5,000
    •    fail to comply with an undertaking

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
